Geneva - The Euro-Med Monitor Human Rights Monitor has agreed to cooperate with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on a campaign to raise awareness among individuals in oppressed and conflict-torn regions of the dangers of illegal escape to other countries.

Migration outside of legal channels has increased dramatically over the past six years and as a result many thousands have lost their lives, had their valuables stolen and become victim to myriad forms of exploitation.

During the meeting in the IOM's Geneva office, both organizations agreed on the necessity of working preemptively to address the root causes of the urge to flee and protect individual human rights.

Euro-Med Monitor also explored possible ways to help the IOM in its work with the Italian investigation of several boat sinkings, to help learn the fate of hundreds of missing migrants.
